Isaiah

Image
This history, origins, and contents of Isaiah are examined. Isaiah is one of the major prophets—you can expect to spend quite some time in this book, but it's definitely worth it! Isaiah gives us the bulk of Messianic prophecies and is often quoted in the New Testament, so you know it's an important book.
Song of Solomon

Song of Solomon

Image
Song of Solomon is beautiful poetry. This book reminds us of why love and marriage is so beautiful! Solomon was the wisest man to live, yet he took the time to compose such beautiful poetry. He knew that the beauty of love is to be appreciated. Although we don't know the time period between Song of Solomon and Ecclesiastes, love remains one of the few things Solomon never calls a waste of time or "vanity."

Like with the Book of Samuel, 1 Kings and 2 Kings were originally one book, known as the Book of Kings. In the original Hebrew text, the Book of Kings is included with the former prophets, however it is grouped with the historical books in the Bible. The Book of Kings spans 400 years of Israel's history.

Ruth

Ruth

An introduction to the book of Ruth. The book of Ruth is quite exciting; most people remember it as a love story about finding the perfect husband (Boaz), but really, it tells us the story of Christ and the Church--which, of course, is still a powerful love story!

Numbers

Numbers

Image
The fourth book of the Bible is Numbers, and like the other four books of the Pentateuch ( Genesis , Exodus , Leviticus , and Deuteronomy), Numbers was written by Moses (the discussion on this is in the post for Genesis ). The name, inspired by the censuses taken in chapters 1 and 26, comes from the Greek Arithmoi , which is the name of the book in the Septuagint. In Hebrew, the name of the book is Bemidbar . Bemidbar translates to "Into the Wilderness," depicting the location of the Israelites throughout the book.
Leviticus

Leviticus

Image
The title Leviticus comes from the Greek word meaning "relating to the Levites. [1] In Hebrew, the name for the book is Vayikra, which means "and he called"—possibly relating to God calling on Aaron and his sons to fulfill the obligations of sacrificial law ("and he called" is the first thing said in the Hebrew version).
Exodus

Exodus

Image
Exodus is possibly one of the famous books of the Bible. Exodus recounts the liberation of the Israelites from Egypt, including the plagues and the parting of the red sea. When I think of Exodus, I automatically think of Moses. The word Exodus is an anglicized version of the Greek word meaning "departure."
