Enoch

There are two Enoch's mentioned in Genesis: one is the son of Cain, the other is a descendant... of Seth, ancestor to Noah.

Introduction

Genesis introduces us to two different Enochs. We are given a little background on both Enochs, which is discussed below.

The Two Enoch

Enoch: Son of Cain

In Genesis 4, Enoch is born to Cain. We are told that Cain names the city he builds after Enoch. This Enoch has a son named Irad. It is highly likely that he is the first son of Cain. This Enoch is mentioned in Genesis 4:17-18.

Enoch: Great-Grandfather of Noah

In Genesis 5, we meet Enoch, father of Methuselah, grandfather of Lamech, great-grandfather of Noah, and a descendant of Seth. He is described as a righteous man with great faith. As a reward for his faith, Enoch was taken straight to heaven and never experienced death. Enoch spent 300 years on Earth before he was taken to Heaven. This Enoch is discussed in Genesis 5:18-24, Luke 3:37, Hebrews 11:5, and Jude 1:14.

By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.Hebrew 11:5

I love reading the Word of God. With prayer God's Word reveals so much: from comfort to temperance, from perspective to affirmation. Digging into the depths of the Word, cross-referencing history, language and time differences, is a passion of mine. In March of 2015 I decided to go back through the Bible doing an in depth study on each section I read. Eventually I decided to share my journal of notes as I partake in this journey. I hope you are bless by God and inspired to pursue a deeper relationship with Him.
