Exodus 35-40: The Tabernacle & Priesthood Pt. 2

Image
The Israelites carry out God's instructions. In Exodus 35, we are taken back to the task of constructing the tabernacle and installing Aaron as priest. Much of the material in these chapters seems redundant, since Moses is simply confirming that they built everything to God's specification. However, there are bits of new information in these verses and it is important to note the diligence the Israelites took in maintaining God's standard.

Exodus 28-31: Priesthood

Image
Aaron and his sons are called to the priesthood. In these chapters, we learn about the details of the priesthood which foreshadow the comping of Jesus Christ! We know that God designed the universe, but how often do we stop to think of Him as a fashion designer? He designed the priestly robes and all the details are laid out in the Bible for us. Have you ever wondered why certain colors are always present in the sanctuary? That's also covered in these chapters!

3 of the feasts required by God are introduced in Exodus 23. Most people, regardless of religion or background, know what the Passover and Hanukkah are. In Exodus 23, however God requires the Israelites to keep 3 feasts as a sign of their covenant with Him—none of which are the Passover or Hanukkah (well, ok, one is related to the Passover).

Exodus 21-23: Expansion of the Law

Image
The law is one of the most misunderstood and confused portions of the Bible. These misunderstandings are often the cause of disbelief, the source of argument, and a stumbling block for believers who are unsure (and often unaware) of the what and how the laws apply. It is important to understand that God's moral law still stands today, but the judiciary law which delegates punishment for breaking the law does not. Before we start talking about the laws Moses gives the Israelites in Exodus 22 & 23, take a minute to brush up on how Biblical law applies today, if you are confused. I have a post discussing this issue entitled The Law .
