1 Chronicles version of 1 Samuel 31 & 2 Samuel 1, discussing how Saul died.

A few tidbits and a summary of what I thought after completing 2 Samuel.

The final bit of information revealed, concerning a census carried out by David, contains 5 points of contention. All 5 supposed "contradictions" are discussed below.

The death of a leader often brings about chaos, especially in a monarchy.

Abandoned by men of faith, Saul resorts to sorcery before dying in his final battle.

Saul becomes jealous of David and attempts to kill him. This post covers those attempts, the help of David's supporters, and David's reaction.

God allows Samuel to mourn for Saul for a little while, but eventually, God tells Samuel it's time to move on. When we lose friends because we have chosen to follow God, He will bring us into the fellowship of people following the same path.

Saul disappointing God to the point he loses his throne is more like us today than we like to think.

In 1 Samuel 13 & 14, we are introduced to the bravery of Saul's son and learn of Saul's victories in battle.

Saul is crowned king of Israel after defeating the Ammonites.

How poetic is it that as Saul is confusedly searching for Samuel to assist in finding donkeys, Samuel is watching Saul and being told by God that this is Israel's king?
