Ecclesiastes 5&6: Religion & Wealth

Image
Ecclesiastes 5&6 makes us reevaluate the way we look at religion and wealth. Without meaning to, we often take up secular attitudes and opinions toward these two topics, which can cause us to drift away from God. It's important to put everything in perspective. Remember, Solomon's main theme in Ecclesiastes, is if I died tomorrow, what then?

Ecclesiastes 4: Don't Go Through Life Alone

Image
In Ecclesiastes 4, Solomon reminds us of how much better life is with two (or more) people, rather than one. Friendship is the one trait, Solomon never writes off as vanity, which means it must be worth a lot! Before jumping into friendship, Solomon discusses power and watching the evils of the world.
Proverbs

Proverbs 31: A Virtuous Woman

Image
as No one is perfect, but Proverbs 31 gives women a glimpse down the road of perfection. We find her several virtues we should strive for to make us better women. These help us to strengthen our relationship with God, which subsequently, strengthens our relationships with those around us.

Chapters 28-31 cover Job's final word to his friends about his predicament. In these chapters, Job discusses the power and riches God had given him and the importance of wisdom.

Job 22-27: Third Responses

Image
During the third cycle of responses, only Eliphaz and Bildad speak. Once again Job responds to their criticism and we see that they do not have an answer for him. One thing that stands out is the discussion on helping the poor. The accusation that Job has not aided the less fortunate, while false, is a reminder than many of laws given in Exodus and Leviticus were in effect well before the Exodus.

Ruth 1&2: The Fields of Boaz

Image
There's a lot more to Boaz than simply being a suitable husband.

Exodus 21-23: Expansion of the Law

Image
The law is one of the most misunderstood and confused portions of the Bible. These misunderstandings are often the cause of disbelief, the source of argument, and a stumbling block for believers who are unsure (and often unaware) of the what and how the laws apply. It is important to understand that God's moral law still stands today, but the judiciary law which delegates punishment for breaking the law does not. Before we start talking about the laws Moses gives the Israelites in Exodus 22 & 23, take a minute to brush up on how Biblical law applies today, if you are confused. I have a post discussing this issue entitled The Law .
